Coconut
shell is a byproduct of the coconut oil and desiccated coconut industry which
is considered as a waste. In addition to coconut shells, rice husks are also
considered as an agricultural waste. These
natural products are firstly being washed to remove dirt or any other
contamination's. Then they are grounded and undergo a carbonisation process.
Afterwards, it is granulated and sieved to get the desired carbon powder. This
carbon powder is mixed with kaolin mining waste, which is a residue generated
during the purification process of extracting high purity kaolin, and a ready
to print black colour ink is manufactured.
Usually, black pigment is made of carbon black which is made by burning fossil fuels and collecting soot that forms in the kiln. It generates around 3 tons of CO2 for each one ton of material made. Organic materials break down as methane when disposed in landfills and methane is a greenhouse gas that's 80 times more powerful than CO2. Recycled Food Waste black is made with a deep carbon negative pigment made from organic waste such as bio-solids and food waste which diverted from landfills.
